Hand-carved from a single piece of copal wood and painted with fine intricate designs inspired by Zapotec and other indigenous designs. Jacobo and his wife María del Carmen Mendoza, work together at the couple’s home and workshop in their hometown of San Martin Tilcajete, near the city of Oaxaca, Mexico. While Angeles continues to create alebrijes, much of the production of the workshop is done by younger members of the Angeles family, and the students who are learning the craft through their mentorship program.
