Large checkered basket is carefully handwoven of dyed pine needles and raffia with pajón, a native grass in Guatemala. This decorative and detailed basket, beautiful on display, is also very functional - a very special addition to a festive occasion table and a great gift.
The baskets are woven in the Guatemalan Highlands by cooperatives of women who work to support their families and communities. Working within a democratically organized group insures that the income is fairly distributed among all artisans in the coop and allows members to participate in decisions about their work. Coop members share skills and expertise, encourage one another and enjoy mutual support.
