In ancient greek mythology, Dionysus was the god of wine-making, orchards and fruit, vegetation, fertility, festivity, insanity and ritual madness. Quite a list! His wine, music, and ecstatic dance freed his followers from self-conscious fear and care. (it was a bit of a cult!).
