Inspired by graph notebook paper, a check is hand-woven through this mulmul shirt by artisans in the Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh, supported by the Kala Swaraj Foundation. Contrasting embroidery and hand-fagoting connecting the arms and body recall the intricate stitches of hand-bound books. Gentle gathers at the front and back yoke carry subtle volume. With selvedge edges at the hem.
This item has been embroidered entirely by hand using traditional techniques. It is a time consuming process requiring much skill and patience. In each piece there will be pleasing irregularities and imperfections. Being hand embroidered, no two will be the same. This fabric is handloom woven. Weaving irregularities are a pleasing characteristic of handloom woven items and should not be considered a fault.
